Monica’s career as an audiologist has covered a variety of aspects of the profession.  Prior to audiology, she trained and worked as a primary school teacher. However, her concern for the hearing difficulties faced by some of the children in her classes encouraged her interest in audiology and a new direction in her professional life.  At the completion of her post graduate studies, Monica accepted a position with the Commonwealth Acoustic Laboratories (now known as Australian Hearing). In 1988, her focus shifted to lecturing at Macquarie University, teaching on the Diploma and Masters of Audiology, the Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Science and the Masters in Speech Pathology. In this capacity she also supervised and mentored many audiologists in their professionally formative years.

After almost 15 years at Macquarie, Monica focused on paediatric and educational audiology working at the Jim Patrick Audiology Centre and The Garfield Barwick School, both part of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children. This was followed by three years at Paxton Barrand Hearing Aids, providing assessment and rehabilitation services to adults.

In 2010, Monica established Broadway Audiology with Pia Doss, where she works in conjunction with Ear, Nose and Throat specialists to provide audiology diagnostic and rehabilitation services to both adults and children.

Monica holds a BA DipEd and a Graduate Diploma and Master’s Degree in Audiology. She is a Full Member of the Audiological Society of Australia with a Certificate of Clinical Practice, and a Member of the International Society of Audiology. Monica has presented at national and international conferences and workshops, and ensures currency in the Audiology field by attendance at continuing education courses and conferences. She is also employed part-time as an Audiometry Teacher through TAFE NSW.

In 2012 and 2013, Monica had the privilege of travelling to Baucau in Timor Leste as part of a volunteer medical team. This has been a challenging but extremely rewarding experience, and has contributed to a career that continues to be interesting and very rewarding.
